Galesburg, Illinois

Galesburg is about 150 miles southwest of Chicago.
It's close to Peoria and the Quad Cities if that helps anyone.

So . . . what's in Galesburg?

For starters, Galesburg is a railroad town.
Trains are going through town constantly.
Stanley was once told by someone who works for the railroad
that as many as 80 trains a day may pass through town.

Galesburg is also surrounded by farming community.  Spring, summer, or fall, you will see many cornfields if you head out of town.

Most farmers in the area raise cattle or horses,
but one farmer that Flat Stanley met even raises bison!

Galesburg is home to Knox College.
One of the buildings on campus
was the sight of one of
Abraham Lincoln's famous debates
with Stephen Douglas.

Not very far from the college, you can see the birthplace
of Galesburg's most famous resident:
poet Carl Sandburg.
His one-time home is now a museum
and open to the public.

As if all of this weren't enough,
Flat Stanley went back for one other reason.
Galesburg also happens to be Mr. Landon's hometown.
So when Mr. Landon went back to get married,
Stanley put on his tuxedo and went to the wedding.

Stanley had a relaxing trip to Galesburg. He was very glad to have gone in October. During the fall, all the trees start changing color and losing their leaves.  This was Stanley's favorite part of the trip.
