New Orleans, Louisiana

Ah, New Orleans!
New Orleans is a wonderful place to visit.
While there, Flat Stanley saw several parts of town.
He visited the wonderful houses in the Garden District,
and he saw the huge shark exhibit at the Aquarium of the Americas.
For the most part though, Stanley stayed in the French Quarter of New Orleans.

In the French Quarter, Stanley liked the buildings.
Many of them have wonderful balconies.
Some of these houses were built nearly 200 years ago!

In the midst of the French Quarter,
you can visit Jackson Square.
Jackson Square is not far from
many touring sights of the city.
Café DuMonde, Bourbon Street, and the Mississippi River
are all mere moments away.

Around Jackson Square, you can also see many kinds of street theater.
You can have your likeness painted, have your fortune read, watch mimes,
and see tricks done by people on unicycles.
-All that on one block!

Flat Stanley's favorite of these
street performers were the jazz musicians.
Jazz is a style of music that
was born in New Orleans.
You can't help but tap your toes!

Just beyond all the excitement of Jackson Square is the Mississippi River.
New Orleans is the last major port for ships
on the Mississippi River before it flows
into the Gulf of Mexico.

Stanley also paid a visit to Lafayette Cemetery.
Because New Orleans is built on swampland,
crypts are built above ground.

New Orleans is also known
for its crazy Mardi Gras fun.
During Mardi Gras, many people wear masks
and beads as they celebrate.
Flat Stanley thought it sounded like fun
and tried out a few new outfits.

All in all, Flat Stanley had a very fun trip to New Orleans.
He has already been planning his next visit back!
